I don’t think that’s controversial. People generally aren’t in love with what Cartman’s feelings for Kyle are in the show. It’s more about what his feelings COULD BE.

Cartman and Kyle have an intense chemistry, and they don’t even necessarily like each other. Their chemistry has no incentive to be that strong, and yet, it is. They can’t stay away. They can’t stop caring. Even though they have no intention of wanting to.

It’s a potential of a budding relationship that keeps people fantasizing, anticipating, and theorizing all the wonderful things their relationship could turn into.
